A Little History...

In early 2021 Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church realized that we needed more space.  After some consideration by the Parish community, the decision was made to look for land on which to build a new Temple.  On June 30th of that year, the Feast of the Synaxis of the Apostles, the parish, with the help of Henry McClure, signed a contract to purchase 29 acres in Southeast Topeka, adjacent to Interstate 470.  The property sloped up to a high point that came to be called Apostles Hill.  On June 29th, 2022, the Patronal Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, a cross was raised and blessed on Apostles Hill in the area of the future Church Temple.  Our Parish Cemetery will be located to the east of the new Temple.

The eastern portion of the property sits in the flood plane of Butchers Creek and will remain a green space.  Landscape improvements include planting nut and fruit trees and creating a walking trail that will encompass roughly 6 acres.

Baker Galloway of Galloway Studio worked with our parish to develop a site plan for Apostles Hill and a floor plan for a Fellowship Hall, which will be the first building constructed on the new property.  Kevin Holland of CFS Engineers, together with Michael Hall and Annie Driver of the Planning Department for the City of Topeka, helped us obtain a conditional use permit from the City of Topeka Planning Commission for property development.

Henry McClure is marketing our current location at 2516 SW Huntoon.   Please contact him if you are interested in purchasing the 2516 SW Huntoon facility.

Architect Bryan Falk of Falk Architects is developing plans for the Fellowship Hall.  We hope to construct the exterior walls of the Fellowship Hall using ICF blocks – a highly efficient and structurally sound means of construction.  This will be an innovative construction method for commercial use in the Topeka area.

Phase One Plan:
Fellowship Hall and Cemetery

Saints Peter and Paul will meet in a temporary facility while we begin construction of our first new building, the Fellowship Hall.

The Fellowship Hall will include the Nave, Narthex, Classrooms, Catering Kitchen, Administrative Offices, Restrooms and Mechanical Facilities.  It will be used for all Church services, meals, functions and gatherings.

The Parish Cemetery will be available at the completion of Phase One construction when we occupy the new Fellowship Hall.
